The Opposition is Paying Attention

SPARTANBURG, South Carolina, June 3, 2026 — The Center for Independent Employees (CIE) was featured last week in a lengthy investigative piece by the Orlando Weekly, a publication with a clear pro-union editorial perspective. The article examined Florida's employee relations landscape and, in the process, identified CIE as one of its pro-employee targets.

The Weekly also took note of CIE's contribution to Florida's landmark Senate Bill 256, signed into law by Governor DeSantis in 2023. SB 256 was a turning point for public employees across the state, establishing real accountability for public-sector unions and protecting employees' rights to make voluntary choices about union membership.

But the editorial board missed a few things.

First, CIE has continued to be active in Florida since then, recently winning a landmark ruling from the Public Employees Relations Commission to ensure Florida public unions provide employees with due process. The Florida Education Association-affiliated union has appealed the ruling.

Second, given our unique on-the-ground model and national network of labor attorneys, we can operate and win anywhere, not just in the Sunshine State.

Third, our focus has been and continues to be working directly with private-sector employees to prevent or remove unwanted unions from their workplaces and with teachers to remove national teachers’ unions from their districts.

When the opposition is paying attention, it means we’re on the right track. So we’ll keep pushing ahead to help every employee—in Florida and across the country—who needs us.
