A Win for Louisiana Employees

Louisiana public sector employees just got a little more freedom over their own paychecks.

Senate Bill 312 has passed the Louisiana legislature and is headed to Governor Jeff Landry's desk. When signed, the law will allow public sector employees to resign their union membership at any time — not just during the narrow, often inconvenient annual "drop windows" that have trapped employees for years. They'll also be able to notify their employer directly to stop dues withholding immediately, and receive an annual reminder that they have a choice in the first place.

Many employees aren't aware they have options. Unions aren't exactly eager to advertise the exit door. Going forward, though, Louisiana public sector employees will have the information they need.

Congratulations to our friends at the Pelican Institute on this victory for employee freedom.
