Introducing Dan Remmenga— Leading CIE Forward

The Center for Independent Employees (CIE) is pleased to announce that Dan Remmenga has joined the organization as its new Executive Director.

Mr. Remmenga’s connection to CIE’s mission is personal. In his first job as a high school teacher, he experienced the pressure many employees face to conform to union expectations.

“When I started teaching, I conveniently misplaced the form required to join the union,” Mr. Remmenga said. “A union representative—who was a colleague in my department—confronted me about it, insisting that the union negotiated our salaries and protected us. But what I saw was a system that too often protected poor performance and fostered a culture of entitlement.”

In his role as Executive Director, Mr. Remmenga will focus on expanding the organization’s ability to support employees seeking independence from union control.

“CIE has built an incredibly effective model and a strong track record of empowering employees both in the public and private sectors,” Mr. Remmenga said. “I’m eager to build on that success and help more independent employees across the country understand and exercise their rights.”

Mr. Remmenga brings 15 years of nonprofit leadership and fundraising experience to the role. Most recently, he served as Senior Director of Donor Engagement at the Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA), where he spent 10 years helping drive the organization’s revenue growth from $4.5 million in 2016 to more than $21 million in 2025.
