Victory in Kentucky

A group of utility employees is now free from union control.

Earlier this summer, Rob Abernathy, an employee working for Kentucky Energy, contacted the Center for Independent Employees (CIE), requesting our help to remove the Steelworkers Union from his workplace. Given the wide support among his colleagues, we were glad to take on the case.

With all but one person in the bargaining unit casting a ballot, the result was clear: 68 percent voted to remove the union. Employees at this Kentucky Energy site are now free to work directly with their employer.

"These employees made their voice heard, loud and clear," said Executive Director Dan Remmenga. "We celebrate their newly won independence."

Jacob Crouse of Smith and Smith Attorneys in Louisville, one of the dozens of lawyers in our national network, managed the case.
