Victory in Aspen, Colorado

ASPEN, Colo. — Employees at an Atlantic Aviation facility have removed their union without an election. More than 60 percent of the location's employees signed cards saying they no longer wanted union representation. After verifying the signature cards, the employer withdrew recognition of the union at this site.

There are multiple paths to removing a union, including withdrawal of recognition, which does not require a decertification election. Employers have this option when 50 percent or more of employees in a bargaining unit are opposed to the union. The one stipulation: there must be substantial proof.

In this case, a solid majority of employees at this facility completed signature cards in favor of removing the union. Once Atlantic Aviation, an aviation service provider with more than 105 locations in North America, verified the signatures, it opted to withdraw recognition immediately.

“This is great news,” said Dan Remmenga, CIE’s Executive Director. “Employees knew they wanted to remove the union and won’t need an election to prove it. We’re grateful to have worked with employees at this Atlantic Aviation site and celebrate their independence.”
