Center for Independent Employees (CIE) Celebrates a Major Milestone
APR. 29, 2026 — CIE’s “Brushfires of Freedom” campaign in Kansas recently marked a major milestone: we have now assisted teachers with removing the National Educators Association (NEA) from 30 school districts across the state.
CIE Victories in Kansas Keeps Rolling
For the past few years, CIE has been helping teachers in Kansas remove the NEA as the bargaining unit. Earlier in 2026, teachers in both the LincolnUnified School District (central Kansas) and the Pleasanton Unified School District (south of Kansas City) voted overwhelmingly to expel the NEA. These two victories were lopsided, with 93% of teachers in Lincoln and 95% in Pleasanton voting to liberate themselves, their students, and their communities from the NEA.
To date, CIE has provided the legal counsel to remove the controversial national teacher union from three Kansas school districts, to the benefit of hundreds of educators and thousands of Kansas schoolchildren. More victories are on the way, as CIE continues its collaboration with the American Association of Educators.
CIE Senior Vice President Keith Williams said Kansas has “tremendous momentum,” pointing to the consistent victories in the state. “Kansas teachers are leading the nation in throwing off the yoke of the NEA,” Williams said. “We’re proud to stand with these stout-hearted, independent-minded educators.”
