Brushfires of Freedom: Teachers in Another Two Districts Vote Out the NEA

CIE Helps Teachers Remove NEA from Central Kansas School Districts

The Victories Follow Two Other Wins in January

SPARTANBURG, S.C., FEBRUARY 21, 2023 — The Center for Independent Employees (CIE) announces that the National Education Association has been removed as the bargaining representative from two additional school districts in Kansas. Teachers in both the Haviland and Otis-Bison school districts voted overwhelmingly to jettison the NEA.

CIE provided the legal counsel for the teachers, freeing dozens of public school educators and more than 350 Kansas schoolchildren from the national teacher union. Just last month, CIE helped remove the NEA from two other Kansas districts.  So far, CIE has provided the legal counsel to remove the NEA from 25 Kansas school districts.

Teachers in both districts held votes to remove the NEA’s influence on February 17. The vote was unanimous in Haviland; in Otis-Bison, only one teacher voted to keep the NEA.

“The independent-minded teachers of Kansas are on a roll," said CIE President Russ Brown. “The removal of the NEA from these school districts will pay dividends for years to come.”
